Sally Ibbotson
Sally Ibbotson is Professor of Photodermatology and Head of the Photobiology Unit and Scottish Photobiology Service. She is also Clinical Director of the Scottish Photodynamic Therapy Centre and Co-Director of the Clinical Research Centre. Her clinical and academic research interests are in the abnormal photosensitivity diseases, photodiagnostic techniques and photoprotection, including sunscreen photoallergy testing and drug phototoxicity studies, and in light-based therapies, including photodynamic therapy, and the human safety of UV exposure, with a recent focus on Far-UVC. She is Euro-PDT Specialist, and the Photobiology Unit is also a Euro-PDT Centre of Excellence. Her interests in photodermatology began in 1992 during dermatology training in Newcastle, followed by 15-months as Harvard Medical School Research Fellow at Massachussetts General Hospital, undertaking photochemistry research. She is a key opinion leader in international photodermatology, has published (H-index 55) and presented widely in this field, and is regularly invited to organise, chair and speak at photodermatology and dermatology conferences. She is a member of the European Society of Photobiology and European Society of Photodermatology committees. She is also a key contributor to the British Photodermatology Group as ongoing committee member and recent Chair and to the development and implementation of Photodermatology Position Statements, Standards and Guidelines.
