Dimitrios A. Pantazis
Dr. Dimitrios Pantazis is a computational chemist, head of an internationally leading photosynthesis research group at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim, Germany. The Pantazis group has made seminal contributions in uncovering the electronic basis of the mechanisms of photosynthesis. Among his major research activities is the development and application of advanced quantum mechanical methods for computing spectroscopic properties of polynuclear exchange-coupled systems, which elucidated the role of spin in biological water oxidation. More recently, the Pantazis group uncovered the quantum mechanical basis of charge separation in oxygenic photosynthesis and is currently developing a multireference–multiscale approach for a comprehensive modeling of photosynthetic processes on both classical and quantum computers.
