David A Mackey
Professor David Mackey AO has been working on genetic eye diseases for over 30 years and completed his MD thesis at the Murdoch Institute, University of Melbourne in 1993 studying Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, which is very common in Tasmanania due to two large founder families. He has continues to work in optic nerve diseases having started the Glaucoma Inheritence Study in Tasmania in 1994. He is currently NHMRC practioner fellow and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Western Australia. He is a past president of the International Society for Genetic Eye Disease and Retinoblastoma.
