Halim Redhwi
Dr. Halim is the Professor of Chemical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia and currently Senior Advisor of Dhahran Techno-Valley Holding Company. His educational background is in the areas of Chemical Engineering and Polymers. He received Ph.D. from The City University, London in 1988. During his professional career spanning more than forty years, he has been active in research and teaching in the field of UV induced degradation in harsh Saudi climate and Petroleum Refining.
Dr. Halim’s main contribution in the last ten years is establishing an entrepreneurial culture in the University where he is involved in the establishment of Science Park at Dhahran Techno-Valley (DTV). This has resulted in 18 R&T centers in DTV science park including Schlumberger, Halliburton, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Sinopec and others. He was also involved in the establishment of research programs that became the areas of excellence for KFUPM. These programs are in the areas of UV -Induced degradation of materials and petroleum refining and have resulted multi-million US $ funding for KFUPM from industrial clients, such as, Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Nippon oil, Japan, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Switzerland, etc.
He has done some pioneering work in the area of UV induced degradation of polymers in harsh climates. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has awarded him letter of appreciation and a citation of excellence for his work in ozone depletion and the effect of increased UV radiation on polymers. Dr. Redhwi has also established a long-term joint UV stabilization project with Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Switzerland
Dr. Halim’s specific contribution was leading the team that develop HSFCC technology from lab to commercial plant. The HSFCC technology is commercialized in S-Oil of Korea for commercial plant with the capacity of around 100,000 BPD.
